PEOPLE conceived through donor eggs or sperm may soon be able to find undiscovered half-siblings thanks to a new genetic biobank. The Donor Sibling Registry (DSR), an international online group where people conceived using donor sperm or eggs exchange information to find out if they are related, is proposing to collect and analyse its members’ DNA. The idea is for members of the DSR, which contains over 29,000 people, to voluntarily submit cheek-swab samples of their DNA to be analysed by the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Members would benefit by discovering or confirming biological relationships with other members, while researchers would have a treasure trove of data. This could include cases of a donor having multiple offspring with the same disorder, allowing its genetic and environmental influences to be compared. Wendy Kramer, co-founder of the DSR,
